Publishing House “Pegi”, supported by the Ministry of Culture of Albania, is the initiator of the project titled “Read to them, to make them read”. This project includes 12 meetings between the characters of literary art, culture and spectacle and high school students in Albania. The project aims at increasing the awareness and commitment of young people to reading as an enjoyable activity that can inspire the desire to read at leisure. At these meetings, each of popular persons will read and will speak to the young people for their preferar books.
At the first meeting in a nonpublic school, ” Ernest Koliqi ” where guest Eneda Tarifa, she read “Chronicle in Stone” (‘Kronikë në gur) by Ismail Kadare. During the meeting she told the students why this book is important to her,about memories of childhood in Gjirokastra, the country of culture, and how every detail in the book reminded place where she had lived a part of her life.
Sonila Meço chose to share with students of educational institute ” Wilson” a book from Oscar Wilde , “Portrait of Dorian Grey”. A deliberate choice to exchange views with students on the phenomenon of time, of image and the importance we dedicate to it.
At the third meeting organized in educational institute “Harry Fultz”, the guest was Fiori Dardha, which read, “If this is a Man?” by Primo Levi.
Blendi Salaj read for students of “Faik Konica”. The guest for this meeting had selected the book “Himni” (Anthem) by Ayn Rand, a short novel, but with multiple messages for the reader.
During the meetings guests spoke to the students about the importance of reading, how does it affect to their future and how they should feel lucky to have the chance to read the books they want. they also recommended for the students many titles available to read at their age.
